Hydracrat Ltd has worked on various sites for Hargreaves Surface Mining from its inception in 2013.

Hydracrat carry out exploratory drilling for Hargreaves which includes open holes, coring and the construction of monitoring boreholes to depths of over 200m. Drill crews are very experienced and carry out the exploratory drilling in a professional manner.

Following a competitive tender exercise Hydracrat Limited were appointed by Gleeds on behalf of Ravenscraig Limited to execute the development of 17Nr deep groundwater monitoring boreholes on the former Ravenscraig Steelworks site within challenging timescales. Hydracrat won the tender exercise on both commercial and programme merit.

The boreholes developed on site by Hydracrat were approximately 120m deep and designed to fulfil a range of monitoring requirements. Hydracrats site team worked diligently in a professional and helpful manner. Site management staff, communicated excellently with ourselves and the wider client project team.

Formation of the boreholes met numerous challenges given the nature of the site, however, every issue was dealt with efficiently with minimum programme or cost impact to the project. All works on site were conducted with excellent management and adherence to all statutory and client requirements. There were no health and safety incidents throughout the course of the project. As a result of Hydracrats outstanding performance we would not hesitate to engage their services on future projects and would highly recommend their services.

Sweco designed and supervised a site investigation at the site of the former Ravenscraig steelworks in North Lanarkshire, which was undertaken by Hydracrat Ltd in 2017. The scope of works comprised a series of rotary cored and openhole boreholes to depths of up to 120m below ground level, including unique requirements to address complex, site-specific geoenvironmental issues. Hydracrat’s proposed methodology was comprehensive, carefully considered and cost efficient, which resulted in the contract being awarded to them in March 2017.

Their collaborative approach to the design of the investigation was creative and resulted in further savings for the client. They displayed ingenuity in the design of the works and determination to ensure they were carried out appropriately with respect to environmental and contractual obligations. Communication from the tender stage and throughout the project from award to completion was efficient, professional and straightforward. The site works and final factual report were completed to an extremely high standard.

Hydracrat were employed in July 2014 to carry out the Mining Investigation on the M8 M74 M73 Improvement Project. The original project involved 96 boreholes are varying depth and type to identify shallow mine workings on the project. Hydracrat undertook their duties in an exemplary manner, executing their scope efficiently and within budget and programme. Hydracrat's reporting was staged to assist with project planning and programming and they reported all areas of their works as was required and to the highest standards.
